6 Summer Staples

Style Edit: 6 Summer Staples | Organized Mess

One thing I try to avoid when it comes to my wardrobe? Trends. Don't get me wrong - I love a good trend here and there but only if it's going to be something that I'll continue to wear once the trend is over. By focusing mostly on wardrobe staples, the pieces in my closet usually last for years and I don't feel the need to buy a new wardrobe every single season. These are a few summer staples that I love today as much as I did a few years ago.

Straw Bags

I mean, what could be a more perfect bag for summer? There's something so effortlessly chic about straw bags. Plus, my favorite French bloggers always seem to be wearing one.

Midi Dresses

Wanna wear a fun summer dress but worried that the beer garden or beach is going to be breezy? No worries, just wear a midi dress! These have been everywhere for years, I'm sure your favorite brand has at least a few options.

Gingham Anything

Gingham may be a 2021 trend but it's also a classic print that never really goes out of style. But since it is a trend this year, be sure to stock up on your favorite pieces in gingham since it seems to be everywhere.

White Sneakers

Do I need to say more? White sneakers are perfect not only for summer, but for the rest of the year too. Especially when you live in the city.

Slip Skirts

Such a classic! Slip skirts are the perfect piece to dress up or down. Wear it down with a tee and sneakers, or dress it up with a silky cami and strappy sandals. Versatile pieces for the win!

Crop Tops

Again, crop tops are around more than ever this year (hot girl summer, anyone?) but they're also a classic that can be worn in so many ways like over a button-up, under a blazer, with your favorite skirt or jeans - the options are endless!

The thing to remember is that everyone's staples are different! This is just what works for me and my closet. Maybe your summer staples don't include slip skirts and include denim shorts instead. Or maybe you prefer mini or maxi dresses over midis.  Once you determine what your staples are, it will be easier to figure out what your personal style is without the noise of trends. What would you consider your summer staples?
