Apple Picking Near Philadelphia

10.27.2016

This is the 2nd year for Derek and I to live together, and although we have been dating for 7 years - we spent 4 of those years as a long-distance couple, seeing each other about once a month or so. It's been fun for us to start new traditions within and near our home in Philadelphia. One of my new favorite traditions is apple picking at Solebury Orchards! This orchard is about an hour outside of the city and has everything, including apple picking, pumpkins, a cutting garden (I have to do this next time!), hot apple cider and, my favorite, apple cider donuts. Yum!

We were able to make it out for apple picking last Saturday. The rain didn't seem like it was going to stop all day, but later in the day the rain seemed to break and we made our trip to New Hope. It was still cloudy and a little bit dreary but that just gave us the perfect excuse for hot apple cider after picking apples for a bit. This cape coat (which is on sale now!) ended up being the most cozy layer to wear out on dreary day, it's literally like wearing a blanket out in public and it being socially acceptable - what could be better? Also, this year we definitely did a little bit better with how many apples we picked. Last year we managed to get carried away and accidentally pick 12 pounds of apples while this year we only picked 5 pounds of apples! Overall, this rainy day ended up being the perfect day for a fall date! Do you have any fall traditions?

Do you live near Philadelphia? If so, be sure to check out Solebury Orchards! Other options include Linvilla Orchards, Highland Orchards and Shadybrook Farm. But hurry - apple picking is typically until the end of the first week of November!

Faux Suede Skirt

10.24.2016

Crisp, cool fall mornings with a latte in hand on the way to the farmers market are my favorite kinds of Sunday mornings. I wish this time of year would go on forever, but I guess with fall being so short and sweet, it makes us appreciate it so much more. I love bundling up in scarves and wearing all fall-themed colors. Navy, maroon, brown, orange and hunter green are my absolute favorite colors to wear and there is no better time for those colors than now with the falling leaves making the perfect backdrop. This faux suede skirt is one of my favorite new additions to my closet. It goes with almost everything and I feel like I can get so much use out of it going into winter later this year. Don't you love pieces that can work for more than half the year?

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I spent it apple picking and exploring the Poconos with Derek. We definitely got our fair share of fall dates in this weekend and I'll be reminiscing about this past weekend all week long. But here's to the start of a brand new week!

Wednesday Wishlist. 05.

10.19.2016

As I mentioned about two weeks ago, I'm headed to Portland next month! One of my favorite things about planning for a trip is planning the perfect wardrobe for it! Although I have never been to Portland before I'm planning on packing a few cozy flannels, chunky sweaters, booties and I recently just bought this parka to pack along. Today's Wednesday Wishlist features a few other pieces I would love to pack along for my trip! Have you ever been to Portland? Any fashion/packing tips?

Cherry Print

10.17.2016

Although it's probably hard to tell in these photos - fall is officially in the air here in Philly! A few of the trees here and there have finally started to turn shades of yellow and reds but as you can probably tell, it's still looking a little green here. We tend to have the best foliage late October/early November versus all of you up in New England who are experiencing gorgeous fall foliage at the moment! Nonetheless, it still feels like fall here and I'm so excited to be wearing layers outside. I have a hard time turning down an adorable print and as soon as I saw this cherry-printed sweater at LOFT I knew I had to have it. And I had to buy the matching blouse to style underneath as the perfect layer, of course.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! It went way too fast, as usual, but I managed to go to the pub with Derek for a few beers and some appetizers so I can't complain! What was your weekend like? Happy Monday, everyone!

Fall Layers

10.07.2016

We're currently in that awkward time of year where it's super chilly in the early mornings and evenings but it still gets fairly warm in the middle of the day. So what do we do about it? Bring along a layer or two! Two of my go-to layers are a denim jacket and a blanket scarf, both of which are super versatile and will go with almost any casual outfit. I picked up this blanket scarf about two weeks ago and I'm loving the colors in it. I wear a lot of maroon, cream and orange during the fall so this one will go perfectly with the majority of my fall wardrobe.
This was the first time for me to try out wearing a bandana as a scarf around my neck and I wasn't sure if it was going to work. It adds an extra accessory without having to try too hard, which makes getting ready in the morning when you're in a rush (which I usually am) so much easier. Also, I'm actually kind of excited that velvet is back. These velvet pants are so incredibly comfortable, I'll have to resist buying a pair in every color!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend/week. Last week I went back to my hometown for a country music festival that we go to every year to see Gary Allen and Thompson Square. We were worried it was going to rain on us but then the weather surprised us and the sun came out! Don't you love when things like that happen? Happy Friday, everyone!
