Summer Dresses

Cardigan: Target, Dress: H&M, Flats: Taget, Necklace: Vinatage

I hope you all are enjoying your Saturday! I've been hanging around the house getting things done here and there and waiting to go to a fireworks display tonight with my family. I absolutely love this time of year, it's hard to believe that I go back to Philly in only about 6 weeks now. Time is really flying this summer, it's making me nervous but I'm excited to get more into house shopping and summer fun.

Vintage dresses are my absolute favorite and I was thrilled when I came across this dress at H&M last year due to it's vintage feel and look. I can pair it perfectly with wedges, heels, oxfords, flats or sandals so that makes it perfect for summer. Last week there was a day where it was only about 70 degrees so this cardigan paired nicely. This would even make a great 4th of July outfit without being too patriotic with the hints of red, white and blue.

PS: Here's an outfit post from last August featuring this dress!

Too Long of a Week

You know when you're having a bad week and you just don't know why? That's been my week. I've been feeling bummed out but I'm ready to shake that feeling away and enjoy my weekend. Derek comes home from his week long trip to Tennessee so I'm sure that will make me feel better and my family has plans to start 4th of July festivities. What are your plans for the weekend?

I'll leave you all with a picture of my youngest cat, Sharkey. Obviously he was in a bad mood and didn't appreciate the shutter of my Nikon in his face.

Weekends at the Market

(Instagram: Chili's Quesadilla Explosion Salad, Vanilla Bean cupcake from the market, cupcakes made by me, Roburritos)
Famers market, family time, coffee, cupcakes and mexican food are all on my list of favorite things. And last  Friday was the perfect day for all of those things. My mom and I headed over to my favorite farmers market in the area and loaded up on fresh fruit, yogurt covered pretzels in all kinds of flavors and sweets. Before hand though, we tried out one of the most infamous burrito places in town called "Robburitos" and it was absolutely delicious. I got a chicken burrito that was filled with rice, beans, chicken, and guacamole and it was definitely a perfect weekend lunch. This weekend was packed with all kinds of fun things like a bonfire with a few close friends where I made malt cupcakes with strawberry cream cheese icing (the last picture on the left) and then Derek took me to Chili's last night after he picked me up from work for a surprise date and afterwards we chilled on the couch, eating popcorn and watching "Bridesmaids". Perfect ending to the weekend.

Daughter of a Military Man

Top: Wet Seal, Shorts: Maurices, Heels: H&M, Necklaces: Thrifted, Sweater: Old Navy, Fedora: Target, Bracelets: Gifted

I hope all of you are enjoying the start to summer! Today it stormed for a little bit, storms are my favorite when it rains. There's just something so relaxing about a thunderstorm and being able to lay in my bed and read a book. I've been working a lot more and I'm really enjoying it, and I also feel like I'm actually getting the hang of it.
Today on my way to work I heard a song on the radio called "Military Man" by Jessie James and I was blown away by how accurate it was in comparison to my life. My whole childhood was filled with moving around, national anthems and military life. My dad was in the marine corp for over twenty years, and I'm so incredibly proud of him. I wouldn't change my childhood at all. I loved being able to live in different places and I appreciate our troops so incredibly much, and I have the kind of respect for them and for our country that I never would have had if it hadn't been for growing up in a military family.

Sugar Filled Mornings

About a year ago, my mom and I found a local bakery that specializes in cupcakes, something you don't see very often in the York area of Pennsylvania. I've blogged about it two other times here and here but it never seems to get old. My mom and I had a lot of cleaning and organizing to get done a few weeks ago so we started out our day with a drive over to Christina's and enjoyed a sugar filled breakfast there. I went with the lemon rasberry scone and toffee nut latte (best latte option there!) and my mom got hot tea and a milky way cupcake. I tried some of hers and it was delicious. Thick chocolate cake with a caramel middle and chocolate buttercream frosting drizzled with more chocolate. It even gave me some inspiration to try out new chocolate and caramel recipes in my own kitchen.

First Day of Summer

Well, it's officially the first day of summer and the weather is showing it through the 100 degree it gave us today. I'm so excited for the official season of summer. Beaches, suntans, ice cream, amusement parks, bike rides, sundresses and barefeet, it's almost too perfect, Today I celebrated with a soy coffee frappuchino with whipped cream and caramel drizzle from Starbucks and my family is making turkey burgers on the grill. I couldn't ask for a better start. Here are some of my favorite memories from Summer 2011.
