Fall Road Trip: Lake Placid

Lake Placid, NY

I've always wanted to go on a road trip to Canada but never really knew what time of year would be best. I could see it being SO magical around the holidays or beautiful during the summer or in the spring when everything is starting to bloom but we finally decided to settle on fall. It's my favorite time of year and I'm such a sucker for fall foliage and I knew there would be plenty of that going North in October. We mapped out our 6 day trip and decided to stop in Lake Placid (New York), Montreal, Quebec City and Albany, New York this past fall. Our stop in Lake Placid was fairly brief but so beautiful!

The drive from Philadelphia to Lake Placid was so breathtaking. The trees were an array of vibrant fall colors and it literally felt like we were in a movie. Pennsylvania can be quite beautiful during the fall but it didn't even compare to upstate New York. Once we were in the Adirondack Mountains I was truly blown away by the autumn scene. Once we got to Lake Placid we stopped for lunch at the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery and I got the turkey maple melt (grilled turkey breast with bacon, melted maple cheddar cheese, cranberry mayo, caramelized apple and onion jam on sourdough) while Derek went with the wings. I also tried 4 of their beers, 2 of which were seasonal (pumpkin ubu ale and the imperial pumpkin) and they were all delicious. Afterwards we stopped for coffee at Coffee Bar and enjoyed a scenic view from their patio while enjoying a macchiato for a little caffeine boost. There were so many cute stores on Main Street and if we had more time we would have loved to explore a little more!

Our final stop in Lake Placid was at High Falls Gorge which I highly recommend if you're ever in the area. High Falls Gorge is made up of 22 acres and has accessible trails for most people. During your walk you'll see 4 different waterfalls and you'll get an incredible view of them thanks to bridges and walkways that have been built for the park. The waterfall trail only took 30 minutes so it was the perfect stop before we hit the road to continue our drive to Montreal. I'm really hoping to go back to Lake Placid someday and to spend a weekend there! It's the perfect location for a mini getaway thanks to the little town being nestled in the mountains.
