Philadelphia: Bloggers, Part 1

Friday is here! And with Friday I have a few Friday Favorites to share today. Living in Philadelphia, it's easy to see how our city is always considered a sort-of "underdog" thanks to the close proximity of NYC. Cities like New York and LA are seen as fashion capitals and not too many people pay attention to what's happening in Philadelphia. Well, I'm here to let you all know that there are some very fashionable people living in this city and that we do, in fact, have a fashion scene here as well - even if it isn't the largest!

This week and the next I will be sharing a few of my favorite Philly bloggers with you, so you can hear about their blogs, their style and about fall fashion. I asked five lovely ladies a few questions so you can get to know them and their blogs!

How would you describe your style and blog?
I co-founded Moda Ninja with a friend, Pallavi Singh in June. Both of us were often complimented on our unique style asked to help pick clothes and accessories for our friends. We decided to pen down our thoughts and share our love for everyday styling through the blog. We believe that style is for everyone & being petite ourselves is a big focus of the blog is to talk about dressing for different body types. We also wanted to build a platform where local designers and boutiques could reach an interested audience.

In August 2013, we were voted Cosmopolitan India’s Best Blog Award. This was a huge testimony of our readership & since we’ve always tried to stay true to our audience.
Pallavi is based in India and I have been in the United stated for a year, so the blog is now a unique mix of 2 fashion worlds. It’s been very interesting to see how both of us are working towards the similar objectives in 2 countries.

My personal style borders from quirky to a unique take on something classic.

How does your style change once the weather switches up on us and it's suddenly fall?
I am not yet ready to let go of my summer clothes and have been pairing shorts, dresses & maxis with fall staples like boots, blazers and scarves. So I’d say it’s a good mix of two seasons, before I go into hibernation for winter haha!

Describe your perfect pair of fall boots/booties.
Just one perfect pair? haha, I want a house full of shoes for all seasons! But on a more practical note, I’ve been lusting after patchwork and studs this season. So maybe a combination of the Chloe Susanna studded ankle boots and the Gianvito Rossi patchwork boots! I think I saw a pair at Aldo that had all this and was much more affordable haha!

What's your go-to coat option for the chilly weather?
I’d have to say I am yet to find a perfect winter coat. While I love wearing my Anorak,  I’ll probably get a cashmere blend peacoat this season. Why don’t you suggest what I should get haha!

What's your favorite fall piece for your wardrobe?
I have a woven poncho from Urban Outfitter which I absolutely love!

Philly always has something going on! What are your favorite fall activities in the area?
Heading to the suburbs to see fall foliage, apple & all kind of squash picking! Honestly, my all season favorite thing is to head to a bar & maybe catch a live show.

How would you describe your style and blog?
I would describe my style as polished, yet casual. As much as I try to fight it, I'm usually always wearing a piece of black clothing. I think black can dress up any outfit and also adds some edge to your look. I also love accessories, as they can change the entire dynamic of an outfit, and they are usually a less expensive way to try out a trend. I usually try to avoid putting together a whole outfit based on trends. Instead, I focus on what trends flatter my figure and try them with everlasting pieces, like my favorite pair of skinny jeans.

My blog, Madly Megan, is a lifestyle blog focused on fashion, travel and wellness. The biggest thing I want women to take away from my blog is that it is relatable. I want to connect with my readers by offering content that is affordable and attainable for the everyday women.

How does your style change once the weather switches up on us and it's suddenly fall?
I rejoice when fall arrives and its time for booties and sweater weather. I love colorful and pattern jackets that I can throw on over a blouse, or under a warmer coat when it gets really cold. I also own way too many scarves. Right now I am obsessed with my oversized camel scarf from H&M, it goes with everything and keeps me warm.

Describe your perfect pair of fall boots/booties.
I'm fairly tall at 5'8 so I always gravitate towards flat booties. I also have a severe obsession with leather booties, particularly black, that stop at the ankle. I think they are versatile and go with any outfit from leggings, to tights and a dress, or jeans. I also love leopard ankle booties, they are a statement piece that goes perfectly with black, my favorite fall color to wear. Sam Edelman makes a great pair I'm dying to own.

What's your go-to coat option for the chilly weather?
I love the classic look of a long black pea coat that sits slightly above the knee. But right now I can't stop wearing my pink sheared coat from Urban Outfitters. I like wearing this with leggings and my black and white Nike Free 5.0's, and also dressing it up with jeans and heels, or a dress and tights. Colorful winter coats are an investment and a great statement piece you can throw on over anything.

What's your favorite fall piece for your wardrobe?
I am currently going through a really big turtleneck phase, like my black turtleneck sweater dress, from H&M. I think a black turtleneck is one of the most flattering and classic fall styles a women can wear, so when I spotted this dress, it felt like my birthday.  I know the waistcoat trend is also big this season, so I purchased this green patterned waistcoat from Zara. This waistcoat is a statement piece that goes well with black jeans, leggings, or a dress.

Philly always has something going on! What are your favorite fall activities in the area?
As a 25-year-old living in Philly, I love going to Octoberfest's and fall festivals around the city. I also enjoy decorating my home for the season with pumpkins and autumn decorations.  And of course, Fall in Philly means Eagles games and tailgates, which trumps all for the best way to spend a fall Sunday.

Aren't both of these lovely ladies so inspiring? I love how they both have such a unique personal style and aren't afraid to try something new! Also - it makes me so happy to see so many sneaky shots of Philadelphia in the background of these OOTD posts. Fashion is alive and thriving here in the City of Brotherly Love. Look out for more inspiring Philly bloggers next Friday for part 2! Be sure to check out Moda Ninja and Madly Megan if you haven't yet!

Happy Weekend!
