Transitioning Summer Dresses for Fall

Transitioning a Summer Dress to Fall | Organized MessTransitioning a Summer Dress to Fall | Organized Mess

Fall is here and here to stay! I am so excited to break out my favorite cozy sweaters, flannels, scarves, jackets and boots. Although, I will admit that some of my favorite pieces are traditionally summer pieces! Especially when it comes to lightweight dresses (but I also love a good sweater dress as well). Just because it's October you don't necessarily have to pack all of your summer favorites away. You can still style a summer dress with fall accessories! This blue midi dress is one of my absolute favorites. Continue reading below on a few fall accessories that will help make your summer wardrobe seasonally appropriate.

A Felt Hat
Adding a felt hat will instantly add an effortless aspect to your outfit (and hide a bad hair day). It also screams fall! I have one in various colors - tan, black, hunter green and brown to match different outfits and to easily add a fall element to any look.

Belt It
Yes, belts are typically worn all year long but they seem to be more prominent and worn more as an outfit accessory versus for necessity during the fall season. It's also a way to tie together colors in your outfit. For example, the black belt with the black mules.

Jackets
Layers, layers, layers. I know most of us love layering which is probably why we are so drawn to fall fashion and jackets are the perfect way to do just that. There is so much versatility too, whether you choose a floral jacket, a black blazer, an oversized plaid boyfriend blazer or a leather jacket - there's something for everybody.

Booties/Boots
Heeled booties, over the knee boots, platform booties, flat boots, mule booties - there's so much versatility here. And again, there's something for everyone. I love a classic ankle boot but while it's still a little warm out I'm hanging onto my mule booties while I can.

  1. Midi/maxi dresses are wonderful transition pieces, and if the dress is a little more summery (ie. short sleeves/no sleeves), layers can often help with that. I'm obsessed with coats!! Your jacket is so fun :D -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

  2. Love your cardigan.
