Wear to Work: Flare Sleeve Sweater

2.28.2018

Wear to Work Style Wear to Work Style
The number one request I have gotten over the last few months has been outfit posts centered around what to wear to work.  To be honest, I was hesitant to post about this because I don't consider my work wardrobe to be an accurate reflection of my personal style but the longer that I've been at my job the more I've been making my work wardrobe work for me. Having to dress in business casual clothes (and working in an office) has been an adjustment, I still feel like a child playing dress up half of the time. So, this will be a journey together!

If you're not a new reader, you probably know that I have a major thing for funky sleeves. Ruffled sleeves, tiered sleeves, bell sleeves - I love them all! So how do you wear a trend to work? Pair it with classics! These wool trousers and black heels are about as classic as it gets. Plus, the sweater itself is a neutral color and fabric. Even after the sleeve trend dies down this is still a piece I could see myself wearing again and again.

In a style rut and not sure what to wear? Or late to brunch and don't have time to think about what to wear? On days like those I have a classic uniform: black top, denim and black booties. I'll usually throw on a fun accessory or two, like a metallic bag and oversized sunnies. It looks like I'm trying even when I'm not. I love this Victorian-era inspired top from LOFT. The sleeves and collar details are fun additions and it's trendy in a subtle way. Plus, any top that can work for the weekend or for work is a favorite in my book! Versatility is always a plus. Do you have a classic weekend uniform you reach for when you don't know what to wear or if you're in a hurry to get out the door?Weekend Uniform | Organized MessWeekend Uniform | Organized MessWeekend Uniform | Organized MessWeekend Uniform | Organized MessWeekend Uniform | Organized MessWeekend Uniform | Organized MessWeekend Uniform | Organized Mess

The Rules Do Not Apply by Ariel Levy
Now that I've been making time in my life to focus a little more on reading, it's become much more of a habit to pick up a book whenever I have any spare time instead of turning on the TV. I read two books this month that I would absolutely recomend - Little Fires Everywhere and The Rules Do Not Apply. What did you read this month?

THE RULES DO NOT APPLY - ARIEL LEVY
Ariel Levy had everything. She had a spouse she was madly in love with, a successful career, she was financially stable and she was pregnant with her first child. She was the epitome of success. But what happens when you have everything and then lose it in the blink of an eye? I could not put this book down. I read it in less than a week. If you're looking for your next memoir to read, pick this one!

"I wanted what we all want: everything. We want a mate who feels like family and a lover who is exotic, surprising. We want to be youthful adventurers and middle-aged mothers. We want intimacy and autonomy, safety and simulation, reassurance and novelty, coziness and thrills. But we can't have it all."  Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE - CELESTE NG
Shaker Heights is a progressive town that prides itself on how planned everything is. So what happens when a family that doesn't follow the same rules of structure moves in? A few parts of the book fell a little flat to me, a handful of the characters were very one-dimensional but once I got through the first quarter of the book I couldn't put it down! I was constantly curious about what would happen next and I love that we got to hear snippets of the past for a handful of the main characters.

WHAT I'M READING NEXT
My March reading list os going to consist of The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin and Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. I'm excited for both! I've heard a lot of great things about The Immortalists, which is a story about four siblings who find out when they are going to die by a psychic and how it affects their lives. And I've been wanting to read Tiny Beautiful Things ever since I finished Wild over a year ago. What are you reading next?

Spring Feelings (In February)

2.22.2018

What do you do when you're more than ready to bring out your spring wardrobe and it's only February!? We've been blessed with a few warm days here and there in Philadelphia, but overall it still feels like wintertime. I'm so tired of wearing the same sweaters over and over again and putting together another collared top underneath one of those sweaters. So, I've started to pull pieces out of my spring and summer wardrobe and I've been incorporating them into my winter wardrobe. My go-to for this gingham ruffle sleeve blouse from Anthro has been to pair it with linen pants and short, high-waisted skirts. But I decided to pair it with denim and booties instead. The top brightens up my look but instead of pairing it with my usual dark denim I went with a lighter wash and added metallic booties for fun. It's so easy to get stuck in a wardrobe rut by the end of a season so incorporating spring/summer pieces into my wardrobe has been a huge help to freshen things up a bit. Have you broke out your spring wardrobe yet?

A Little Red Dress

Are you planning a date night for Valentine's Day that's going to require getting a little dressed up? I have the perfect combo for you - a little red dress and a leather jacket! A red dress is a classic, go-to piece for Valentine's Day but red is such a fun color to throw on. I always feel a little extra dressed up when I'm wearing red, or even just a red lip! You cab dress up your look even more with gold jewelry and a pair of heels. I love this red dress from Tobi in particular because I love the deep-V and the wrap detail in the skirt. Not only does it make this dress a good option for a Valentine's Day date but it would also be cute for a night out. What are you planning on wearing for Valentine's Day?

What I Read in January

2.07.2018

My goal for 2018 is to read 1 fiction and 1 non-fiction book per month. I was successful in January so we'll see how the rest of the year goes! Here's a look at what I read in January.

THE ALCHEMIST BY PAULO COELHO | FICTION
I've heard multiple people say that this book is life changing and will really make you re-evaluate your own life. And oh my goodness, yes. It absolutely did that for me as well! I found myself highlighting so many passages and scribbling notes for the future. The book is about a young man who goes on to travel the world in the search for treasure. The lessons he learns along the way are things you will be able to reference in your own life. I don't want to give any of it away. If you haven't read it, this is a must read! (PS: This salted caramel donut from Beilers Donuts is AMAZING)

THE GIFTS OF IMPERFECTION BY BRENE BROWN | NON FICTION
Brene Brown is a research professor who has held numerous ted talks and written multiple books on the topic of courage and bravery. Many of her books are on my future reading list but this one in particular stuck out to me. I've dealt with being perfectionist my entire life, to the point where it's been unhealthy in the past. (Real talk). Brown goes through different techniques of how to let go of your perfectionism throughout the book and discusses the topic of self acceptance which I found incredibly helpful. I'm looking forward to reading more of her books in the future.

WHAT I'M READING NEXT
My fiction pick for February is Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. This is the first suspense book I've read in months so I'm looking forward to diving into this one! My non-fiction pick is The Rules Do Not Apply by Ariel Levy - a memoir about what's it like to have it all and then to lose it all.

Who doesn't love an oversized hoodie? It's the perfect thing to throw on when all you want is comfort. But what if you want to look both comfortable and elevated? That's where this adorable Sweatshirt Dress from Tobi comes into play! This would make such a cute Valentine's Day dress for a lazy night in. I styled mine with a pair of sheer tights and booties - and a metallic purse! What would you wear for a Valentine's Day date night at home?

7 Lingerie Picks Under $100

2.01.2018

Whether or not you're celebrating Valentine's Day with somebody else, you still deserve to treat yourself to something fun for the holiday. Whether it's a bodysuit you've been eyeing or a soft and silky pair of PJ's - here are my top picks for Valentine's Day!
Black Bralette | Personally, I prefer bralette's most of the time over a traditional bra because of comfort. Plus, not only are they comfortable but there are so many options to suit what style you're looking for!

Lace Underwear | An intimate staple that you can't go wrong with.

Lace & Silk Animal Print PJ Set | Lace, silk, animal print, what could seem more luxurious? Even if it's just a night in with a cup of hot tea and a good book you will feel fabulous!

White Kimono | A kimono is a great piece to have laying around the house to throw on after a shower or over your PJ's.

Sheer Bodysuit | Bodysuits have been making a comeback. There are so many options including sheer ones.

Pink Bralette | Most of my go-to bralette's are black or nude but why not get festive for Valentine's Day and go with another color for fun?

Lace Slip | A classic lingerie staple.
