Beach Day at Cape May, NJ

Last week Derek and I took a day trip to my favorite New Jersey beach, Cape May. The weather was perfect. It was hot and humid with a slight breeze in the air. We laid out on the beach for hours after spending nearly an hour in the water attempting to not get knocked over by the waves. Did I ever mention that I can't swim? Seriously. And the sad thing is I grew up 15 minutes from the beach in North Carolina. I know, it doesn't make any sense that I was never able to learn! Oh well, I still take the risk and "swim" in the ocean anyway. Plus, one of the best parts about being at the beach is laying in the sand, listening to music or reading a good book. We packed lunch and ate on the beach, enjoying the sunshine. Afterwards, we strolled through the little town. Stopping in shops that sold little knick knacks and the usual beach souvenirs. I stopped to buy fudge, because what's a trip to the beach without bringing home a little bit of fudge? I opted for peanut butter-chocolate and rocky road, my favorites. We also stopped for a bite to eat at the Blue Pig before driving home. We split a plate of fries and each got an appetizer. Derek went with the baked mac n' cheese (and I may have stolen for than a few bites...) while I decided on a fresh summer squash salad topped with feta cheese. It felt nice to have a little getaway, even if it was just for a day. Where is your go-to getaway place during the summer?

Wednesday Wishlist. 04.

As you can tell from my last outfit post, you can probably tell that I'm loving simple cutout details right now. It adds a fun element to otherwise casual pieces. Whether it's cutouts in the front, the sides or the back, I have an entire wishlist full of pieces featuring this current trend. What are your favorite trends right now?

A Summery LBD

You know when you find the most comfortable dress and could just re-wear it every single day? I wore this on the plane ride back from San Francisco and it felt like I was wearing pajamas. Cute and comfy! What could be better? I'm loving the fun cut-out details that have been around the last few summers. This dress is one entire piece even though it looks like there's a bandeau underneath.

I'm in disbelief that we're already more than halfway through July. Summer is speeding by and I'm already seeing fall styles in stores. I'm wishing time would pause, just for a little bit. I'm planning a beach trip for this Friday, what are your summer plans?

Classic Red, White and Blue

I hope everyone had a great Holiday weekend! 4th of July is always one of my favorite holidays. I love any excuse for a cute red, white and blue combo and a chance to play with sparklers and to bake a flag cake. I went home to my parents house for the weekend. Last year I spent 4th of July in the city, so it was a nice change to spend it out in the country this year. It was a quiet and rainy weekend but that didn't stop us from playing with fireworks. I also got to spend Monday with Derek, my family and my best friend! What could be better?

I wore this seersucker skirt last year for 4th of July and I couldn't help but wear it again this year! I bought this front tie top a few weeks ago and it's been on constant repeat in my wardrobe since then. Classic pieces are my absolute favorite for summertime and both the skirt and top are two items I think I will continuously wear for summers to come. I decided to add pops of red with my nails and shoes. How did you celebrate the holiday?
