I hope everybody had a beautiful Valentine's Day yesterday and got to spend it with someone that they love, whether it was your spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend, family or friends. The weekend flew by way too quickly, as most weekends do. Saturday Derek and I exchanged gifts since we would be spending the following day in NYC. Along with the tickets to NYC, he picked me up a pretty bouquet of red roses and assorted chocolates. And I may or may not have already consumed that entire box of chocolates...I got Derek a print made with three photos of us in the three countries we travelled to together last year. I also picked him up a candle, chocolate and two tickets for the Philadelphia zoo. When I got home from breakfast with my friends, he had also pulled up the movie Valentine's Day for us to watch. We went to see that movie on Valentine's Day in the theater 5 years ago so it was a sweet surprise.
Sunday, we headed to NYC (after snacking on some sugar cookies from Carlos Bakery for a pre-breakfast snack) and Derek treated us to brunch at the Australian restaurant Burke and Wills on the Upper West Side. I got one of my favorite breakfast choices, the lox Benedict with a mimosa and it was delicious. They also come around with different pastries while you're waiting for your food to arrive. There's an awesome skylight too. so you can see the city above you while you're dining. Afterwards we spent a few hours at the American Museum of Natural History. I've never been there before and didn't realize how massive it was going to be! We only made it through the first floor and plan on going back one day to check out the second floor. After leaving the museum we ventured into Central Park for a few minutes before getting too cold. It was a high of about 15 degrees, with a wind chill of -11 so it wasn't the best day to aimlessly walk around, but we tried! Lastly, we enjoyed dessert at Jacques Torres, warming up with hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies.
You are so brave for going outside this weekend! I was up there as well and pretty much hibernated all day Saturday. We literally just sat around and then when it was time to go out, took Uber for a few blocks since it was so cold. Glad you made the best of the weather and still had fun!
